Adding 'Check Online' to the startup process?

Does it make sense to add an initial 'Check Online' function after the 'Merge' step? As I understand it, the online stuff is usually only updated once a day so this would remove the need to load, wait for the merge to complete and then 'Check Online' before the user can check for new or outdated flight plans.
